New Armenian General Prosecutor Elected

Gevorg Kostanyan was elected the next General Prosecutor of Armenia. In parliament today, out of 130 MPs, 108 voted — 103 for, 3 against, and 2 votes were disqualified.

Note, prior to the secret ballot, the Armenian National Congress (7 members) and Heritage Party (5 members) factions had announced that they would vote against Kostanyan’s nomination, and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, or ARF-D) had said its members could vote as they wish. Prosperous Armenia Party spokesperson Tigran Urikhanyan and MPs Mikayel Melkumyan and Gurgen Arsenyan avoided telling the press whether they had a common position or not.
