Human Rights Activist to Challenge in Court Armenia’s Decision to Join Customs Union

Head of the Vanadzor office of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly, human rights activist Artur Sakunts intends to dispute Armenia’s decision to join the Russian-led Customs Union, which Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced on Sept. 3 in Moscow.

During a discussion at the Media Center in Yerevan today, Sakunts said that Sargsyan made the decision single-handedly, and it is undemocratic and unconstitutional. The human rights activist said he will launch an application with the Constitutional Court, disputing both Sargsyan’s decision and the Armenian government’s decision to establish a commission to study the documents required for entry into the Customs Union.
