Armenian Soldier Killed from Shots Fired from Azerbaijan: Defense Ministry

Shots were fired from the Azerbaijani side of the border at vehicles driving on the road between Berd and Ijevan near the town of Paravakar at around 1 to 2 pm today, reports the Republic of Armenia (RA) Ministry of Defense.

Individuals in both civilian and military vehicles were injured. According to the defense ministry, contract serviceman Garik Poghosyan, 19, was killed as a result of the shots fired on the string of military vehicles transporting servicemen to combat duty.

Contract servicemen Artur Andranikyan, Arayik Zhamharyan, and Martin Petrosyan, all aged 19, were all inflicted with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk has been informed of the incident.
