After Shelling from Azerbaijan, Northeastern Road in Armenia Closed

The Vazashen-Paravakar segment of the road between Berd and Ijevan in northeastern Armenia has been closed to vehicular traffic since Oct. 22, and it is unclear when it will be opened, Paravakar village mayor Roland Margaryan today informed Epress.am.

The road was closed following shots fired from Azerbaijan’s side of the border directed at vehicles driving on the road, which occurred around 1 to 2 pm on Oct. 22, as reported by Armenia’s Ministry of Defense. Currently, traffic has been rerouted  through Gandzakar village.

“What can I say? They fired shots once yesterday; today it’s calm. Shelling is most frequent in that part [of the road],” he said.
