Imprisoned political activist Shant Harutyunyan, who declared a hunger strike 16 days ago, at around 2 pm today was taken to the Hospital for Prisoners, Harutyunyan's attorney, Inessa Petrosyan, informed Epress.am.
Harutyunyan's condition deteriorated during the hunger strike, Petrosyan said, adding that in recent days he experienced dizziness and a drop in blood pressure, which resulted in the need for hospitalization.
Recall, after calling for a revolution and initiating a march that led to clashes between activists and police and several arrests on Nov. 5, Harutyunyan himself was arrested and accused of using violence against a government representative. According to Armenian human rights defenders, Harutyunyan is being persecuted for his political views.
