Armenian authorities are planning to increase the salaries of police employees in the near future, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak, adding that such rumors are circulating in the police force.
The newspaper stresses that the state budget doesn't provide for such an increase.
According to reports, salaries might increase by 10%, but they will be reviewed in July when they might increase again.
The newspaper's sources don't exclude the possibility that the unexpected decision to increase police employees' salaries might be due to events in Ukraine.
"The likelihood of mass demonstrations in Armenia this year is being discussed by the ruling elite, and police loyalty in this case becomes the only life buoy for the ruling clan," reports Haykakan Zhamanak.
