MEPs Concerned With Armenian Police Treatment of Activists: Paper

At a meeting with Armenian MPs, Members of the European Parliament expressed concern regarding the administrative proceedings brought against protestors in Armenia, said EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee member, MP Nikol Pashinyan in conversation with local daily Haykakan Zhamanak. Note, Pashinyan was a member of the delegation from Armenia in Strasbourg from Feb. 4–6.

According to Pashinyan, the matter of Armenian police launching administrative proceedings against protestors were raised by several members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, considering it incompatible with democratic countries.

The newspaper reports that according to common practice in recent years, participants of various protest demonstrations in Yerevan are detained by police, substantiated by the claim that protestors allegedly committed administrative violations.
