Armenian Diaspora Minister Saving Money to Buy ‘Comfortable Apartment’

Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan several months ago noted her holdings of Soviet rubles in her official declaration, reports local daily Zhoghovurd.

Asked why she included currency that no longer exists in her declared assets, the minister said: "That which I accumulated, I accumulated with honest labor. Let us not forget that from the state budget today a certain amount of compensation against the Soviet ruble is given to the elderly. Tomorrow or the day after they might say, if you had it, why didn't you declare it?"

According to Hakobyan, she has been working for 39 years but lives in modest dwellings.

"I live a humble life, and now I'm saving money so I will be able to buy a comfortable apartment because what I have, an area of 30 square meters, is not a very comfortable apartment," she said.
