Children’s Hospitals in Yerevan Overcrowded Due to Seasonal Viruses

The flow of sick children to Arabkir Joint Medical Centre is so great that some of the patients are being placed in the corridors, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak. Other children's hospitals are also overcrowded.

The directors of Surb Astvatsamayr (St. Mary) Medical Center and Muratsan Hospital Complex told the newspaper's correspondent yesterday that their clinics are also overburdened. Various departments have had to double up in order to accommodate the children, though they haven't yet had to place patients in the corridors.

The directors said the influx is due to seasonal viruses. Surb Astvatsamayr (St. Mary) Medical Center Director Nikolay Dallakyan reported that according to data obtained on March 25, hospitalized at their medical center are121 children with respiratory viruses. This figure, he said, is 2–3 times higher than the number of hospitalizations on other, regular days.
