Defense Ministry Made 2.5 Billion in Purchases from Third Party: Newspaper

You can stumble upon remarkable facts in the RA Control Chamber's 2013 annual report, writes local newspaper Zhoghovurd in its issue today.

The newspaper reports that the RA Ministry of Defense signed purchase contracts of 2 billion 458 million AMD (about $5.9 million USD) with organizations that are neither manufacturers nor importers.

"It said that the purchases were carried out by a third party; as a result, 172 million 877 thousand dram (around $420,000) were paid from the RA state budget. The defense ministry also purchased sugar and salt this way, from a third party, paying 10 million dram [about $24,077] more for these goods," reports the paper.

Zhoghovurd recalls that in 2012, RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan (pictured, in the suit) was reprimanded by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan for abuse in the area of purchasing, but the situation, it seems, has not been rectified.
