The Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology and the Global Shapers Yerevan Hub for the second time in Armenia will be marking the day of the fight against melanoma. To mark this day, a number of events will be organized and information about melanoma will be distributed to citizens of Armenia and other countries between April 11 and May 11.
Melanoma is less common but much more dangerous that other skin cancers. About 160,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed every year, and, according to the World Health Organization, about 48,000 melanoma-related deaths occur worldwide per year. May 11 was declared as World Melanoma Day, according to the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology, in memory of Bob Marley, who died from melanoma on May 11, 1981.
From April 11 to May 11, Armenia's National Oncology Center will provide consultations and diagnosis free of charge. The Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology will organize roundtable discussions on the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of melanoma.
A major international conference on multidisciplinary cancer management will be held between May 12 and 15.
