Armen Manukyan, 47, today was sentenced to a fine of 50,000 AMD (about $121 USD) for beating his ex-wife. The woman was fined the same amount for having poured hot coffee on her ex-husband. However, she was granted amnesty by a ruling issued by the Court of First Instance of the Shengavit Administrative District of Yerevan and is free from punishment, reports Pastinfo.am [AM].
According to the indictment, Armen Manukyan assaulted his former wife with a bucket and a coffee pot in his Yerevan apartment, and she, in turn, poured hot coffee on his foot.
In court today, the defendant stated that as a result of the bodily injuries inflicted on him by his wife he was unable to work for some time and though his wife denies it, he is asking the court to be lenient. The wife said that she is demanding justice and wants everything to be within the limits of the law and she was defamed; she didn't do anything like that.
Pastinfo.am reports that the couple have 3 children, one of whom — their 23-year-old daughter — committed suicide during this trial.
According to the news site, tired of her parents constantly arguing, the daughter went to her grandmother's home, where she hung herself from a tree.
