Price of Electricity Might Increase in Armenia: Newspaper

The company Electric Networks of Armenia in the near future plans to submit a claim to the Public Regulatory Services Commission of the Republic of Armenia to increase the electricity tariff, reports local daily Haykakan Zhamanak, citing its sources.

According to the newspaper, the tariff might increase from the current 38 to 45 dram per kilowatt. At present, Electric Networks of Armenia purchases energy from thermal power plants at a higher price than provided for by the current tariff. As a result, the tariff structure has changed, and Electric Networks of Armenia has accumulated large debts — to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.

The newspaper was unable to obtain comments on the matter from the company at the time of publication.
