Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan offered to sign a treaty of Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union by June 15 this year, reports Itar-Tass news agency [RU].
Speaking on May 29 at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana, Sargsyan said that a draft document is already ready. "Please confirm the date for the signing of the Treaty of Accession of the Republic of Armenia to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union by June 15 this year," said the Armenian head of state, adding that 2–3 days are enough to find mutually acceptable solutions on the remaining issues.
The Treaty establishing the Eurasian Economic Union — which is expected to be operational from January 1, 2015 — is planned to be signed after today's summit in Astana. Besides, the presidents of Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan, the presidents of Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are also participating in the negotiations.
