The Public Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia (RA) on its own initiative began the process of reviewing electricity production and service provision, and the tariffs for electricity sold to consumers, which resulted in an increase in the electricity tariff.
As stated in the official report, the Commission for approximately 2 months studied electricity companies' 2014–2015 forecasts of the expenses and liabilities necessary to implement the licensed activities and discovered that expected this year and next are significant changes in the factors affecting the economic performance of electricity companies.
"According to the preliminary assessment of the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission, for the financial stability of electricity companies and to ensure the safe and reliable supply of electricity to consumers, additional funds of around 20 billion dram (excluding VAT) are needed. To cover the financial gaps arising in companies, increasing the tariffs on supplied electricity within 3.8–4.3 dram/kWh (including VAT) for all consumer groups is envisioned," reads the statement [AM].
Note, the electricity tariff rose by 8 AMD last year, making it 38 AMD per kilowatt hour.
The Commission also reports that all stakeholders can contact it on any business day until 6 pm by calling +374 (10) 52 85 90 (ext. 332) and agree on a time with a Commission staff member to come to the office and study the calculations made by the Commission and the documents that served as their basis.
