Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) in 2013 had a profit of 13 billion AMD (about $31.5 million USD), the inspector's monthly salary is 90,000 AMD (about $218), while those occupying higher positions get 10 times more, said secretary of the Armenian National Congress faction Aram Manukyan during the parliamentary hearings on raising the electricity tariff.
Recall, among the justifications for raising the price of electricity, the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) cited the need to raise the salaries of employees in this sector.
Responding to Manukyan's observation, Commission Chair Robert Nazaryan said he has no right to interfere in determining the salary amounts. Nazaryan said the average monthly salary at ENA is 220,000 AMD (about $534), which, according to him, is not very high from the average salary in the country.
Also expressing his discontent regarding the high salaries at ENA was Republican Party of Armenia MP Khosrov Harutyunyan, who said, "If ENA wants to pay its employees more, let it, but at the expense of its profits not citizens." He said the PSRC can intervene in the matter of the wages; otherwise, the parliament will do so.
