At the last meeting of the foreign affairs ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia on June 18, discussed, of course, was the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, in which Russia originally occupied a special position, though having a negative effect at the initial stage of the conflict, said Azerbaijan's deputy foreign affairs minister Araz Azimov, reports the Baku-based news agency APA [RU].
Then, according to Azimov, Russia, participating in the discussion as a OSCE Minsk Group co-chair country, revised its attitude toward the Karabakh issue and developed a "common approach".
"As I understand, Russia's main issue in the region should be connected to Azerbaijan, which has the largest territory, the biggest human resources, and a stable, reliable, and qualified government. Azerbaijan can be a good partner for Russia. In my opinion, Russia should have an interest in perceiving Azerbaijan as a developed, stable, and reliable strategic neighbor. Russia can achieve a lot, by helping Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he said.
