Cigarette Burns Proven by Medical Examination: Domestic Violence Case Continues

The accused, 33-year old Sargis Hakobyan, who for nine consecutive years caused psychological and physical damage to his wife, has been refuting allegations and a cigarette burn on his wife’s hand. A medical examination revealed that 27-year old Hasmik Khachatryan’s scars on her hand were caused by a cigarette burn. The latter information was given to Epress.am by Khachatryan’s lawyer, Tigran Muradyan.

Recall, that Hakobyan claimed he never beat his wife, and only hit her once before. He also denied Khachatryan’s testimony, which stated that he put out his cigarette on her hand, and he countered claiming the wound was, in fact, a very old scar. According to the victim’s testimony, one day her husband came home after drinking alcohol and asked his wife, if she knew whether her husband was a “a good guy”, and put out his cigarette on her hand.

To note, Khachatryan’s case is not the first time a medical examination confirming the victim’s physical wounds is not recognized as a result of beating, but rather as a skin condition. Mariam Gevorgyan, who suffered beating and torture from her mother-in-law and husband, also faced denial from defendants claiming Gevorgyan was not beat, but instead had a skin disease.
