The Heritage Party condemns Armenia signing a treaty for its membership into the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), said a statement by the party.
The authors of the statement claim that the October 10 treaty was signed by “the Republic’s de-facto President Serzh Sargsyan,” and it was an unconstitutional decision against Armenia and Artsakh’s (Nagorno-Karabakh) sovereignty and “a serious threat to the independence and security of our two Armenian states.”
The Heritage Party notes, that it rejects Serzh Sargsyan’s exclusive, illegal, hasty, and without long-term promise decision for Armenia’s membership into the EEU, that went without a preliminary, transparent social discussion or engagement with political bodies, which also deepened society’s mistrust and skepticism toward the matter at hand.
Despite that, the party does not approve of Armenia’s membership in an interstate or supranational structure without at least Armenia’s recognition of Nagorno Karabakh.
The Heritage Party also gives importance to the “the smoldering Artsakh-Azerbaijan conflict’s high necessity for a concrete settlement and plan, which so far has been replaced by the authority’s interest in their service “diplomacy,” the complete lack of political will, and the inability to obtain equivalent dividends from foreign policy developments.
“It is obvious that in the EEU, Armenia is not considered an equal partner, altogether, “a poor relative” or a tool to influence others, while in this case, the minimum price paid to Azerbaijan is Artsakh,” noted the statement.
The party considers it absolutely understandable that “the unjust elections that allowed the authorities to seize power makes Serzh Sargsyan ineligible to sign any contract in the name of the Armenian people, without assuming any obligation.” The Heritage Party reconfirms that the anti-state pillared agreement is null and void despite being signed. The National Assembly should not ratify it, but if it is ratified, it should only be on the condition that Armenia recognizes the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.
It is obvious, that the shortest and most productive path to the solution to these and all deriving problems, is the urgent and complete removal of the authorities, which is the imperative demand of the vast majority of Armenian citizens and the Constitution” concluded the statement.
Recall, that on October 10, during the rally organized by Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Armenian National Congress (HAK) and Heritage Party, Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan criticized Serzh Sargsyan’s decision to enter the EEU. After his speech, HAK president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, stated that entering the EEU is “already an irreversible reality, and the 2-3 dozens of people’s seizures are turning ridiculous.”
