The Armenian government must do whatever it can so no pregnant women suffers from the reforms of the “Law on Temporary Unemployment Benefits” and “On State Benefits,” stated the Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan while running a government session today.
The reforms to the law foresee a decrease in working woman's pregnancy and childbirth benefits, while non-working women receive benefits worth the minimal salary. The benefits of working women are to be transferred to non-working women.
“After numerous discussions, the outcome became clear that there really is discontent around the issue. I think that we have to put are every effort in this draft law to make sure no pregnant woman suffers. Accept that as the starting point,” Abrahamyan said to Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Artem Asatryan.
Note, that recently a group of women’s rights related organization’s protested demanding that the reforms be revoked.
