Four years ago today, on January 27, behind the bars of the Presidential Palace, the mothers of dead soldiers spoke to President Serzh Sargsyan who promised that their children’s cases would be investigated fairly and those guilty would be punished. This promise was never fulfilled and today, those same mothers raised the issue of the President’s promise in front of the palace, while holding the photo they had of their conversation with the president. Another copy of the photograph was thrown to the ground by the mothers. One of the police officers asked them to stop stepping on the photo of the president. “But you’re also in the photo,” said one of the police officers, however, that did not convince the protesters who kept stepping on the photo, after which the officer came, picked up the photo and left.
The Presidential staff, once again, did not meet with the protesters. A meeting was taking place with the state commission for organizing events for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
After the meeting at Presidential Palace, Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan exited the building and approached the mothers in order to listen to their issues. The protesters spoke to the clergymen with “Who are you praying for? The bastard president?”
Bishop Bagrat asked the mothers to calm down. Gohar Sargsyan, the mother of soldier Tigran Ohanjanyan, responded saying that they would not calm down until their sons' case’s are dealt with in a just manner.
“Problems are not solved like this, isn’t there another way? A legal avenue, court, trial,” advised Bishop Bagrat.
“We have tried every avenue. There are no fair trials. If the chief commander commands, the issue will be solved, if not, then no,” said Gohar Sargsyan.
The mothers also complained that the church is not on their side either.
