BHK MP Says Russia Has No Intention on Handing Over Murder Suspect to Armenia, Reports Zhoghovurd

In the period between February 9 and 10, Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction members met with Russia’s State Duma representatives, and BHK MP Martun Grigoryan raised the issue of transferring the murder suspect of the 7 members of the Avetisyan family Russian soldier Valery Permyakov to Armenian law enforcement. Grigoryan told Zhoghovurd paper about the details of the meeting.

“It seems like there is no intent in regards to handing him over, but they were determined to punish him in the most severe way possible. They said that they have execution by firing squad (in their law), and they think he is worthy of that punishment. However, that punishment is not implemented in Russia, its been put on hold. They even made a statement that if ties with Europe were finally torn then they would reanalyze the execution by firing squad issue,” stated the MP from Gyumri.

Note, that Armenia’s Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan had applied to Russia’s Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika in order for the criminal case on the Gyumri murder be transferred to Armenian law enforcement, however, there has been no response by Russia to date.
