Elections to local government bodies held in a number of communities in Armenia on Sunday proved once again that as long as the situation with the electoral registers is not regulated, the results of any elections in Armenia can not be credible, Armenian daily “Zhoghovurd” wrote on Tuesday, June 9.
For example, as the paper points out, in the town of Abovyan, according to the registers submitted by the Central Electoral Commission, there are 43 800 voters, meanwhile, the total population, according to official statistics, is only 44 300. The number of voters on electoral registers in Artashat is 21 000, while official population is 21 300.
“In other words, it turns out that the entire population of Abovyan and Artashat is eligible to vote, and there are practically no minors in these towns. And the situation with Alaverdi is even more shameful: here, the number of voters is more than the official population by almost 3000 people. According to official figures, Alaverdi has 13 700 residents; the number of voters was 16 474. It is not difficult to guess how many dead people were registered to vote,” the daily wrote.
