Arpine Hovhannisyan, 32-year-old parliamentarian from the ruling Republican party, was appointed by President Serzh Sargsyan Armenia’s new Justice Minister on Friday, September 4. Hovhannisyan will replace Hovhannes Manukyan who stepped down from the position on July 14 without explaining his reasons for resigning.
Sargsyan presented Hovhannisyan as an official candidate at a September 3 meeting of the party’s Executive Body, and the board members unanimously approved her candidacy.
Arpine Hovhannisyan graduated from the Faculty of Law of Yerevan State University (YSU) in 2004. She obtained a Master’s degree of the same faculty in 2006, and a Postgraduate degree – in 2009. Hovhannisyan is a candidate of Law Sciences.
In 2008 Hovhannisyan served as an assistant to the President’s Chief of Staff; from 2008 to 2011 – as an adviser to then Parliament Speaker, current PM Hovik Abrahamyan. In 2012 she was elected to the National Assembly by the proportional electoral system from the Republican Party of Armenia.
