Armenian Cabinet to Discuss Bill on Karabakh’s Recognition

At a May 5 sitting, the Armenian Cabinet will discuss a bill “On Recognition of the Republic of Artsakh,” put forwards by two opposition lawmakers, Heritage faction member Zaruhi Postanjyan and Armenian National Congress MP Hrant Bagratyan.

The bill will be introduced to the government by Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandyan. If approved by the Cabinet, the bill will be sent back to the National Assembly for further discussion.

The oppositionists’ bill comprises the following two articles:  article 1 – the Republic of Armenia recognizes the Artsakh Republic; article 2 – the present act comes into force the day after its official publication.

With the adoption of the draft law, according to the MPs, “the Republic of Armenia will rightfully recognize the actual status of Artsakh, based on the fact that the Republic of Artsakh meets all the international requirements of statehood.”
