Lawmaker Proposes to Double Financial Support for Armenia’s Defense Industry

Heghine Bisharyan, the leader of Rule of Law party faction, proposed during parliamentary discussions over the implementation of Armenia's 2015 state budget on Wednesday to double financial support for the country's defense sector.

The parliamentarian announced that “April events” have shown that Armenia's defense industry needed more budget allocations. In 2015, she added, these funds stood at AMD 207 billion (about US$432 million), and in 2016 – at AMD 201 billion.

“As a result of private discussions we've come to the conclusion that this money was not enough and we suggest that government representatives come here and listen to our proposals,” Bisharyan said, stressing that additional resources would allow the defense ministry “to provide decent conditions for our soldiers.”
