The criminal case over the June 6 beating of Nagorno-Karabakh opposition lawmaker Hayk Khanumyan has been closed and the suspects – 39-year-old Mikayel Sahakyan and 48-year-old Sergey Avanesyan – have been freed under an amnesty, Hayk Alumyan, a lawyer for the MP, told Epress.am Tuesday.
The proposal to declare an amnesty on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Nagorno-Karabakh's independence was approved by NKR's National Assembly on August 25.
According to Alumyan, Khanumyan's defense team intended to appeal against the decision and take the case to the European Court of Human Rights, if need be.
