Yerevan Prisoners End Hunger Strike

Four prisoners in Yerevan's Convicts' Hospital penitentiary – Vahe Andreasyan, Armen Mkrtchyan, Artur Gasparyan and Harutyun Keghbetsyan – have stopped their hunger strike, which they had begun on November 16th demanding proper medical care, the press service of justice ministry's penitentiary department informed Epress.am on Monday, without elaborating on the prisoners' health condition or their reasons for ending the protest.

On November 17th, Epress.am had turned to the group of public monitors supervising Armenia's penitentiary institutions to find out whether the hunger-strikers were being treated properly and had received a reply that the monitors intended to visit the prisoners the following day. However, Epress.am today learned that the group “were unable to visit the protesters due to lack of staff.”
