Recent statistics published by Armenia’s National Statistical Service shows that there were 58 workplace-related accidents in 2016 in the country due to violations of occupational health and safety standards, 6 of which ended in fatality.
Most of these of accidents (65%) occurred in the mining industry, with half of the cases taking place in Armenia’s Syunik province.
Some of the people injured in workplace-related accidents have become unable to work; 3 of them have acquired various degrees of disability. Employers have paid a total of AMD 106 million as compensation for damages suffered as a result of violations of safety standards – temporary disability allowance, compensation for lost earnings, medical and other expenses, the NSS statement said.
