Khandoyan Ends Hunger Strike to Stop Drawing Attention Away from Protesting Friends

Daredevils of Sasun member Arayik Khandoyan ended a nearly two-week long hunger strike on Monday evening, his lawyer Arayik Papikyan told Epress.am today.

“He had begun a hunger strike in support of his two friends – Smbat Barseghyan and Armen Bilyan. He wanted to help to draw more attention to their issues and demands. On the other hand, however, he thought that his involvement had put him in an unwanted spotlight and decided to end his own hunger strike to get all the attention back to Barseghyan and Bilyan,” Papikyan said.

Note, Barseghyan and Bilyan have been on a hunger strike for 14 and 22 days, respectively. They demand that they are transferred to the Armavir prison from Yerevan’s Nubarashen jail. In addition, Bilyan demands that he is provided with proper medical treatment in a civilian hospital.
