Yerevan Civic Activist Subjected to Unnecessary Force by Police

Yerevan-based prominent civic activist Vardges Gaspari was on Monday subjected to force by police officers as he stood at the Proshyan-Demirchyan intersection holding a poster that read “Serzhik – Murderer, Serzhik – Bastard,” Forrights.am reports.

The officers started to push and shove Gaspari around unnecessarily, trying to prevent him from standing on the sidewalk and causing him to feel unwell  as a result.

Note, the paternal house of Armen Sargsyan, the fourth Armenian President, is located on Demirchyan street; at some point during the protest action, Gaspari tried to cross the street to the house, but the police officers grabbed the activist by his hands and feet and dragged him to the opposite side.

Armen Sargsyan today sworn in as Armenia’s new president at a special session of the Armenian National Assembly; the oath-taking ceremony of the former Armenian Ambassador to Great Britain took place at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex in Yerevan.
