New Prime Minister Election to Be Discussed on May 1, NA Speaker Says

Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ara Babloyan announced today that the issue of the election of a new Prime Minister would be discussed on May 1.

“According to Article 140.3 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Armenia ‘The Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly,’ I declare that the issue of the election of the Prime Minister will be discussed at 12pm on May 1, at a special meeting of the National Assembly,” Babloyan said in a statement.

Recall, at a late Wednesday rally in the Republic Square, opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan had announced in front of tens of thousands of demonstrators that the National Assembly factions “must reckon with the current political reality and nominate and elect the people’s candidate as Prime Minister by consensus.”
