The parliamentary faction of the Republican Party of Armenia is ready to discuss any issue with all sides without any preconditions, the RPA said in a statement late on Wednesday, following opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan’s demand that the Republicans surrender power unconditionally to the people.
“On April 25, the MPs of the RPA National Assembly faction met with retired president Serzh Sargsyan and acting prime minister Karen Karapetyan. In the first half of the meeting, Serzh Sargsyan gave more detailed explanations for his resignation [from the PM post] and spoke about [the faction’s] further work in the National Assembly, urging [RPA lawmakers] to view the country’s internal stability and security as their main priority.
“In the second half of the meeting [which was held in Sargsyan’s absence], RPA lawmakers discussed the current political situation and possible developments with acting prime minister Karen Karapetyan. It was agreed to declare that the Republican faction is ready to discuss any issue with all sides without any preconditions,” the statement said, adding that the RPA would also start working on replacing Sargsyan as the party chairman.
