Russian Military Serviceman in Gyumri Arrested over Charges for the Death of a Woman

A Russian military serviceman is arrested over the murder of a street cleaner woman in Gyumri, the press department of the Chief prosecutor’s office reported.

On December 2, 57-year-old Julieta Ghazaryan was brutally beaten in Gyumri’s Slabodka district and died before reaching the hospital. The woman lived at Achemyan 26 in Gyumri, was a staff worker at the utility department of Gyumri’s municipalities and performed street cleaning. For the purposes of investigating the criminal case, the police has used footage from the security cameras of former MP Vardan Ghukasyan’s private house. Factor.am website reports that the footage shows the woman walking quietly, when a young man approaches and starts kicking her in the face with strong blows.

In a conversation with Epress.am, on December 3 the press department of the Southern District of Russian Armed Forces based in Rostov, denied any affiliation of the Russian military base serviceman with the murder of the woman. “Call the police, they will tell you everything, the Russian armed forces soldier has nothing to do with it,” was the answer. To our question where their confidence comes from that this is the case, our interlocutor raised their voice and noted that this information was a result of bad faith of mass media that aims to “make a crack in the Armenian-Russian relations.”
