When Armenia and Georgia Lived Together, Russia Didn’t Exist, Says Ambassador

In 20 years of independence, never have Armenia-Georgia relations been as good as they are now — both in the political and in the human relations arena, said Georgia’s Ambassador to Armenia Tengiz Sharmanashvili at a press conference in Yerevan today.

Speaking about Russia’s role in Armenia-Georgia relations, the ambassador placed importance on the fact that from the start, the presidents of Armenia and Georgia have said that no third country can interfere in relations between the two states.

“We lived together as neighbors when those third entities didn’t exist in the world at all, so let no one teach us what kind of relations to have with each other,” he said.

Sharmanashvili also touched upon tourism in the Armenian-populated Georgian region of Javakheti, mentioning plans to develop winter resorts in the region. “In the near future, Armenian businessmen will be invited to the Javakheti development forum and their proposals will definitely be taken into consideration.”
