Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Dec. 27 visited the RA Police Traffic Police division, where he was introduced to reforms implemented at the division and upcoming development programs. It was noted that a center for registering violations has already been furnished and opened at the administrative building of the Traffic Police. This year, 15 speed cameras and 40 monitoring cameras were installed at 10 intersections of Yerevan. The company, which implements the program, also provided the RA Police with the video cameras for monitoring crowded places.

It was noted that in the next six years, the system will be expanding and as a result, 185 speed cameras will be installed in Yerevan and on interstate highways, and 90 intersections will have video cameras.

The Security Dream Company, which won the tender, as part of its contract, will invest 9,849,562 euros into the developing the system in 2011–2017.

After becoming acquainted with the installation of the system for monitoring traffic activity, Sargsyan emphasized that now there are actual grounds and opportunities to implement fundamental reforms in the work of traffic police. For starters, the president stressed the importance of equipping the streets with the necessary devices as soon as possible which will considerably reduce the number of traffic violations, reports the president’s official website.
