Initiative Calls for Removal of Russian Flags from Armenian Public Transport Vehicles

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan is being asked to order the removal of flags of the Russian Federation from public transport vehicles in Armenia's capital. Local civic initiative "We are the owners of this city" in an open letter to the mayor that was sent to news media notes that in some public transport vehicles there are Russian state symbols — in particular, the flag. In some cases, these are placed alongside the Republic of Armenia flag; in other cases, on their own (for example, in bus numbers 26 and 53). The authors of the letter attached photos to their letter.

"We demand to find out why another country's symbol of statehood has appeared in Yerevan public transport: given the elementary fact that Yerevan buses and mini-buses are not diplomatic representations of the Russian Federation, consequently they cannot express any relation with that state," reads the letter, in part.

If the flags are not removed soon, the authors note that "sovereign Armenian citizens will implement the order defined by the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and those actions confirming the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia."
