‘Amot Che!’ (It’s Not Shameful): International Women’s Day March in Yerevan

A march organized by civil society activists dedicated to the protection of women's rights began at around 1 pm in central Yerevan today. To the tune of several drums, marchers chanted "Amot che!" (it's not shameful), that is, to talk about a wide variety of taboo topics such as domestic violence as they walked down Abovyan St. from Avetik Isahakyan's statue near Eritasardakan metro station to Republic Square, then back up Northern Avenue, finally ending at Liberty Square near the Opera.

Marchers also held signs with the faces and stories of Armenian activist women in history, some of whom are featured here.
