Armenian political prisoner Felix Gevorgyan was released from Erebuni penitentiary earlier today. He had served one-third of his sentence.
Recall that Gevorgyan was arrested after the incidents surrounding the 2008 presidential elections. He was found guilty according to Article 235 Section 2 (“illegal procurement, transportation, keeping or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices committed by a group with prior agreement”) and Article 238 (“theft or extortion of weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices”) of the RA Criminal Code and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.
Speaking to Epress.am, Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted People coordinator Vardan Harutyunyan said though the issue of releasing Gevorgyan was raised last week, it was only today that he was actually released.
