On Apr. 15, Vahagn Hayotsyan, the executive secretary of the opposition Pan-Armenian National Movement party, submitted a request to hold a rally and march on May 4 from 4 pm to 11 pm in Yerevan’s Liberty Square.
On Apr. 18, Yerevan City Hall denied the request for a rally at Liberty Square, stating that other events will be held on those days — and the days following.
The municipality, however, suggested the opposition group instead hold a rally outside the Matenadaran (Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts), and also approved the request for a march on the following route: Liberty Square – Mashtots Ave. – Amiryan St. – Republic Square – Nalbandyan St. – Tumanyan St. – Liberty Square.
