Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s Azerbaijan visit and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s upcoming visit to Armenia have become an occasion for discussions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, reports Russian daily Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
In Azerbaijani political analyst Vafa Guluzade’s opinion, the presidents’ visits pursue different aims.
“Russia’s strategic aim is to prevent the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Moscow’s dissatisfied with NATO’s expansion. Moscow believes that after resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia and Azerbaijan will become members of the North Atlantic Alliance. While Turkey’s president wants to settle this conflict within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, and with that, preserving its influence on our country,” said Guluzade.
