From Oct. 1–7, a festival dedicated to the love of books will be taking place in the Jazzve cafe in Yerevan’s Freedom Square (near the Opera) and in the Khnko Apor library.
The festival aims to create an environment where reading will have its specific role and significance in the modern citizen’s thought and intellect, say organizers.
Among other events to kick start the festival today was a reading for children whereby German Ambassador to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt read a fairy tale to children in the Khnko Apor library.
The ambassador said he quite enjoyed the audience. He also expressed his admiration, noting that the young students have a good command of the German language.
“In the beginning, many parents were concerned that it’s likely that the children won’t understand the fairy tale; however, I noticed that not only did they understand, but also at the end they asked me questions in German,” he said.
The German ambassador also mentioned that it’s the first time he was reading a fairy tale for the students. In the coming days, stories will be read also by the ambassadors of Italy, France, the US, India, Iran and China in Armenia.
The festival, which officially launches tomorrow, is organized by Actual Art cultural union, Khnko Apor Library, and Mkhitar Sebastatsy educational complex.
