Unborn Children Already in Debt, Cautions Labor Party Leader

United Labor Party leader Gurgen Arsenyan advised journalists today to raise the issue of Armenia’s foreign debt.

According to the party leader, any foreign loan provided to Armenia is allocated with preconditions, which later become legislative changes.

“In this case of preconditions, those resources [the funds] don’t serve the diversification of Armenia’s economy. The resources are provided, they’re given on loan, and Armenia’s competitiveness decreases day by day,” he said.

Arsenyan noted as well that it’s become easier and more desirable to search for resources “in our name, in the name of our children, in the name of our state.”

“This is a very dangerous tendency, against which society has to be provided. The public must be informed that a debt is incurred in its name.

“The public must be informed that, in Armenia, every family’s commitment has increased by $800 dollars in the last two years, every family already has $800 dollars foreign debt, about which he is not informed. His unborn child is also in debt. He is not informed of that, they didn’t ask him: do you agree to having a $800 debt? They took out a loan in his place, I don’t know what they’ve done with that money instead of him, and [it’s] his children who will pay back that money,” said the labor party leader.
