Armenian population is an integral part of Georgia’s national body – Saakashvili

In remarks made in the Armenian church in Tbilisi on January 6, President Saakashvili said, that ethnic Armenian population of Georgia “is an integral part of Georgia’s national body, Georgia’s statehood development”, civil.ge reports.

“It is rare in the world history when [two] nations are linked with thousands of years of co-existence, friendship, brotherhood, mutual support and survival in the most difficult circumstances, in the most difficult historical and geopolitical situations,” said Saakashvili, who congratulated Armenian community on Christmas.

“These relations between our countries are not based simply on the past, but they are based on what we have in the present and what we definitely will have in future.”

“We will never forget and we should not forget the contribution, which Armenians made not only to economic, cultural, spiritual, human development of Georgia, but also the fact that for centuries, including in recent years, many of them were fighting with arms in their hands for Georgia’s independence, integrity, freedom and have contributed with their blood to ensuring that Georgia exists, survived and is developing,” Saakashvili said.
