Drivers protesting the high customs fees in importing vehicles from Georgia to Armenia will continue their protest today. They plan on meeting at Gyumri’s central station and driving over to the town of Bavra — blocking the main road from Armenia to Georgia. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by one of the protestors, Vahan Khachatryan, who in fact is not a driver, but supporters their cause.
Recall, yesterday protestors, not receiving a response to their complaints from the Shirak marzpet (regional governor), blocked the main road from Yerevan to Gyumri, which resulted in numerous traffic jams. Then, the protestors gathered in Gyumri’s main square.
Police yesterday advised protestors to go to Bavra’s customs point and submit a complaint-appeal, which would then be sent to the Armenian capital, Yerevan.
At the end of yesterday’s protest, drivers had said if they don’t receive an acceptable solution to their issue, they would again gather at 10 am on Feb. 9 to protest.
Later, they decided to move the date of the protest one day earlier.
