Armenia’s Heritage Party yesterday issued a statement on amendments to the RA Electoral Code, noting that it will initiate consultations with political parties with the aim of creating an alternative joint project that will then lead to a forum dedicated to this alternative joint project on the electoral code with the inclusion of opposition groups.
On the same day, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, or ARF-D) also announced its plans to create a movement called the “Right to Vote.”
Speaking to Epress.am, Heritage Party MP Stepan (Styopa) Safaryan said they welcome all initiatives which have to do with improving electoral processes in Armenia.
Asked whether cooperation with ARF-D is possible in this issue, Safaryan responded affirmatively, saying that it’s already been a few years that a multi-phase strategy to electoral code reform has been taking place.
Safaryan recalled how last year the Heritage Party, along with the ARF-D, prepared an agreement on electoral code reform with 10 clauses which they presented to the public for discussion.
“I think, if we’re talking about electoral processes, if Dashnaktsutyun is going to launch a campaign so the public doesn’t accept bribes and we’re going to initiate amendments to electoral processes, then we’re dealing with one overall movement,” he concluded.
