Armenian Meat Processing Companies Fined for Incomplete Food Labeling

Various violations by local producers in the meat goods market were found as a result of inspections carried out by the RA State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition.

In particular, the production date is absent on the Moskovskaya (“Moscow”) brand of smoked meats manufactured by the Good Samaritan. The following companies also committed the same infraction: Geghard Msamterqi Kombinat (“Geghard Meat Processing Factory”) for Servelat meats, Marila (also Servelat), Athenk Meat Processing and Packing Factory (Braundshwegskaya type of meats), Yeremkan (Zernistaya), Gamjalyan Brothers (Konyachnaya), Erebunu Star (Konyachnaya), Jrvezh Meat Processing and Packing Factory (Konyachnaya), A. Bilyan Meat Processing Factory (Servelat), Mush (Krakovskaya) and Ararat (Konyachnaya). (The proper English translation, or transliteration, of names could not be confirmed in all cases.)

At an Apr. 18 meeting, the Commission decided to fine each of the aforementioned companies 500,000 drams (about $1,350 US) as a result of not including the production date on their products’ labels. In addition, the companies are required to remove the products in question from circulation within 5 days.
