Armenian President’s Brother Swears at Journalist. Audio Recording to be Sent to President

Republican Party (HHK) MP Aleksandr (Sashik) Sargsyan, brother of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, yesterday swore at Marine Kharatyan, reporter with local daily Hraparak. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by Kharatyan herself.

“Coming across Sashik Sargsyan in the National Assembly corridor, I approached and asked him whether he’s preparing to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Sashik Sargsyan, livid, snatched my audio recorder and said, ‘What right do you have to ask me a question?'” said Kharatyan.

According to the reporter, when she tried to explain that in the parliament building it’s possible to also pose questions to MPs, Sargsyan unleashed a flood of curses. A National Assembly employee, witnessing the event, was able to hold back Sashik Sargsyan. Also present was head of the HHK parliamentary faction Galust Sahakyan, who, according to Kharatyan, didn’t even attempt to chide his colleague in verbally attacking a journalist.

The reporter recorded the last segment of this incident where the MP called the reporter “lewd” and said such things as “fuck off” and “they’ve sent this dog.”

Hraparak noted on its website that it’s preparing to send the audio recording of these insults to the presidential palace, so that “Serzh Sargsyan can personally hear with what and with whom journalists are forced to deal, as well as how the president’s brother behaves himself.”
