Nikol Pashinyan’s Family and HAK Activists Wait Outside Artik Prison for his Release

Since early this morning, friends and family of imprisoned journalist, chief editor of local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”) Nikol Pashinyan, as well as Armenian National Congress members, have gathered outside Artik penitentiary where Pashinyan is being held. They are hopeful and waiting for his release any day now, reports the Epress.am correspondent at the scene.

The time and date of fellow imprisoned oppositionist Sasun Mikaelyan’s release is also unknown. A staff member at the prisoners’ hospital (where Mikaelyan is being kept) told Epress.am that he doesn’t know when they’ll release the prisoner. Mikaelyan’s relatives also have no news.

Recall, the National Assembly of Armenia yesterday approved a bill to grant general amnesty on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.
