HAK Still Playing ‘House’. Authorities Won’t Dialogue in Format Dictated by HAK: Sahakyan

“The innovation proposed by the Armenian National Congress [HAK], to negotiation within a speakers’ format, is ridiculous and not subject to criticism,” said Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) vice chair Galust Sahakyan, discussing the dialogue between HAK and the authorities at a press conference in Yerevan today.

“An issue of forming a delegation has not been put forth on our agenda. Each political team has its uppermost bodies — the parties have elected this model of dialoguing or negotiating. Introducing a new terminology — 5 people us, 5 people you, [having] which powers — for what? We are prepared to dialogue with any political entity, but the single polarity that HAK is suggesting, it is trying to create a monopoly toward other political entities in the political arena,” he said.

“Why are we condemned only to speak on pre-term elections? Can’t we speak of pensions, the social situation?” Sahakyan continued.

According to the HHK MP, there is already dialogue; for example, during press conferences.

“All children during kindergarten-age play House; they begin to form a family; these people [HAK] are still playing House, but we don’t want to play that game… They want to talk to HHK, please, let them get in contact; they want to speak with [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan, let them contact the president,” he said.

“We say, come with principles based on civil, classical politics — let’s talk about whatever issue you want. But by demanding pre-term elections, HAK simply wants to keep the public’s attention alert, to keep it directed in its direction,” he said.

Sahakyan also mentioned that there has been no meeting or dialogue yet between HAK and the authorities. Asked by journalist, with whom is he prepared to sit around the table to negotiation, Sahakyan said, “I see no one. I’ve known them all for a very long time; if we take political weight [influence, authority] into consideration, HHK shouldn’t speak to anyone.”
